Poem: ‘Twas Another Night…2020

‘Twas another night during COVID,
Stuck again in the house.
Not wearing slacks, pants, or work wear,
Not even a blouse!

The masks were all hung,
On the drying racks with care.
In hopes that this awful virus,
Would not enter there.

The families cozied up,
Every single book was read.
Puzzles all completed,
Everyone was overfed.

Borders were closed,
All over the map.
Folks settled in home,
With presents to wrap.

Around the globe,
Christmas plans were in tatters.
No relatives to serve,
No food on the platters.

2020 has been hard,
It’s gone down with a crash.
Masks to wear, friends to miss,
Plans all gone in a dash.

The year has been long,
This I very much know.
But there have been moments of laughter,
A healing time to grow.

And as the trials of 2020,
Begin to disappear.
I have a wish for 2021,
That I hope all will hear.

Let’s bring forth the merriment,
Light the tree, play that holiday flick.
Dig down deep, find your smile,
And bring forth good ole St Nick.

Zoom your friends, family, and loved ones,
Cheers to all we all overcame.
Look forward, and to the future,
This shall be our collective aim.

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer!
Now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid!
On, Donner and Blitzen!”

So bring forth some holiday magic,
To one and to all.
This year tried to beat us,
But we did not fall.

Christmas is not canceled,
And neither is love.
Stay home and stay safe,
This too, we shall rise above.
