The Power of Retreat

One of my favorite things about facilitating retreats is watching what happens after people slow down.

Not right away.

Usually after the first walk.
The first shared meal.
The first honest conversation.

The pace softens.

The laughter gets louder.

And somewhere along the way, people stop talking about what they do and start sharing who they are. Beautiful!

Last week, while facilitating a Forum retreat in partnership with ForumSpace and YPO, I was reminded once again that some of the most important leadership work doesn't happen in a boardroom.

It happens around a table. On a walk. Over a cup of coffee. In the spaces where trust has room to grow. There was wisdom in the room, certainly. But there was also vulnerability.
Curiosity.
Generosity.
A healthy dose of humor and laughter, because… sure why not! The kind that reminds us we're all just humans trying to figure things out.

Every retreat leaves me with the same reminder:

When we create space to pause on purpose, we often find the clarity we've been too busy to hear. Grateful for the leaders who showed up fully, trusted the process, and reminded me yet again why this work matters.

Here’s a little video of the experience!
